In Good Spirit

Respectfully showing up in Indigenous spaces

I'm often asked by non-Indigenous folks how to show up in Indigenous spaces in a respectful way. I know this question comes up so often because they care and want to show up for their relatives in a good way, but may not know what exactly that means.

In Good Spirit is a space where it's okay to not know, a space to be curious and to ask questions without fear. Through In Good Spirit, you'll learn how to show up in a good way.

What you need to know...

Why In Good Spirit?

As much as Indigenous spaces are welcoming and open to everyone, there are some things that it's important to reflect on and acknowledge before entering these spaces, some things you may not know or understand yet.

I've created this space because I so often see Indigenous peoples being bombarded with questions just because they're Indigenous. As much as it is your responsibility to educate yourself, it is not every Indigenous person's responsibility to teach you. So came to be In Good Spirit, a place where you have space to learn and ask any questions you may have in good spirit.

This program is more than a 'seminar', that's why I broke it up into separate weeks as opposed to squishing all of this learning into a two-hour shot. Throughout In Good Spirit, you will be invited to reflect, to talk through your questions and experiences, and be guided in creating and personalizing tools that will give you the confidence to show up authentically and in a good way. This will not be a history lesson, but applicable information you can carry with you as you show up in Indigenous spaces here and now.

We are so grateful to be based in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people, covered by the Peace and Friendship Treaties, on which we reside. In honour of this land and its people, we wholeheartedly embrace our responsibility to re-Indigenize and decolonize the institutions and spaces we share and everyday strive to walk in right relation with all of our relatives.
